The reason for large molecules having greater intermolecular forces than small molecules is to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

The intermolecular forces present in all atoms or molecules are called London dispersion forces.

The electrons moving around molecules are not always symmetrically distributed. At an instant, an electron is more on one side a the molecule, which will be more negative. This leads to the formation of a temporary or instantaneous dipole.
