The monetary value of an assets decreases over a period due to usage, obsolesce and wear and tear. The measurement of decrease is measured as depreciation. The value of assets is decreased over the life of period of the asset.
There are various components which should be considered while calculating depreciation such as depreciation method, salvage value of assets and useful life of asset.
There are several methods of depreciation of assets such as straight-line method, written down value, double-declining method etc. The organization should use the depreciation method very carefully on the nature of assets.
