The deadlier of the two which kills most people in the United States each year: “heat or tornadoes” and “winter storms or hurricanes.”
Answer to Problem 1QR
Heat is responsible for more deaths per year as compared to tornadoes, and winter storms are more deadly in comparison to hurricanes in the United States.
Explanation of Solution
Winter storms are responsible for severe cold wind, ice and snow. Heat causes high temperature, dry and hot weather. Tornado is a rapidly rotating column of air which descends from a large thunderstorm. Hurricanes are huge tropical cyclones characterized by a low-pressure center, and they bring heavy rains and strong winds.
Heat, winter storms, hurricanes and tornadoes all are categories of severe weather. As compared to tornadoes, heat is more deadly in the United States. It takes around 161 people lives per year, while tornado kills only 72 people per year. Similarly, winter storms are responsible for 102 deaths per year as compared to 63 deaths caused by hurricanes per year
