Concept introduction
The psychoanalytic theory proposed by Sigmund Freud emphasized the significance of unconscious psychological forces, the impact of inherent sexual and aggressive tendencies, and childhood experiences on human behavior. Freud had a deeply pessimistic view on human nature, presuming that, without restraint, people would give in to destructive instincts.

Explanation of Solution
Although humans are influenced by innate aggressive instincts, they have the power to make choices that are not only self-enhancing, but also group-enhancing. Freud gave more credit to instinct and overlooked the opportunity for free will. Socialization does help individuals engage in appropriate behaviors, so restraints set forth by parents and society do help keep natural instincts in check. Freud’s assumptions lack evidence and experimental studies to support them. They are also overly pessimistic.
