Interpretation:

The intermolecular forces present in the liquid and the solid state of bromine is to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

The intermolecular force present in the nonpolar molecules is London dispersion force. Nonpolar molecules do not have any permanent dipole moment. However, their electron cloud can be deformed temporarily. The deformation in the electron cloud leads to the formation of a temporary induced dipole among the molecules. Thus, nonpolar molecules have a temporary dipole-dipole force of attraction. This type of intermolecular force is called London dispersion force.
