Concept introduction: Blood is a fluid connective tissue that carries oxygen, glucose, and nutrients throughout the body. It mainly consists of four types of cells namely red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), plasma, and platelets. All the blood cells differentiate from the red bone marrow. Anemia is a condition in which the total number of red blood cells in the blood circulation is reduced, or there is a change in hemoglobin structure or decrease in the concentration of hemoglobin. Polycythemia is an inherited genetic mutation in which the counts of erythrocytes or red blood cells are increased in the blood.
