Is there a difference in the satisfaction rating of traditional cellphone providers who bill for service at the end of a month often under a contract and prepaid cellphone service providers who bill in advance without a contract? The accompanying table contains the satisfaction rating for 10 traditional cellphone providers and 13 prepaid cellphone service providers.
Assuming that the population variances from both types of cellphone providers are equal, is there evidence of a difference in the mean ratings between the two types of cellphone providers? (Use
α=0.10.)
Let population 1 be the ratings of the traditional cellphone providers and let population 2 be the ratings of the prepaid cellphone providers. What are the correct null and alternative hypotheses?

A study of the career plans of young women and men sent questionnaires to all members of the senior class in a College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois. One question asked which major within the business program the student had chosen. Another question asked about their job status, whether they worked full-time (40+ hours/week) or part-time (<40 hours/week). Here are the data from the students who responded.

Some association On-Line Discount Broker Survey polls members on their experiences with discount brokers. As part of the survey, members were asked to rate the quality of the speed of execution with their broker as well as provide an overall satisfaction rating for electronic trades. Possible responses (scores) were no opinion (0), unsatisfied (l), somewhat satisfied (2), satisfied (3), and very satisfied (4). For each broker summary scores were computed by calculating a weighted average of the scores provided by each respondent. A portion of the survey results is contained in the Excel Online file below.

One common area of concern for auto insurance companies is the risk involved when offering policies to younger, less experienced drivers. The U.S. Department of Transportation recently conducted a study in which it analyzed the relationship between 1) the number of fatal accidents per 1000 licenses, and 2) the percentage of licensed drivers under the age of 21 in a sample of 42 cities. Your first step in the analysis is to construct a scatterplot of the data. FIGURE. However, because 54% of first marriages end in divorce, social scientists have begun investigating influences on marital satisfaction. Suppose a social psychologist sets out to look at the role of sexual orientation in relationship longevity. He decides to measure marital satisfaction in a group of homosexual couples and a group of heterosexual couples. He chooses the Marital Satisfaction Inventory, because it refers to “partner” and “relationship” rather than “spouse” and “marriage,” which makes it useful for research with both traditional and nontraditional couples. Higher scores on the Marital Satisfaction Inventory indicate greater satisfaction. There is one score per couple. Assume that these scores are normally distributed and that the variances of the scores are the same among homosexual couples as among heterosexual couples. The psychologist thinks that homosexual couples…arrow_forward
- The personality characteristics of business leaders (e.g., CEOs) are related to the operations of the businesses that they lead (Oreg & Berson, 2018). Traits like openness to experience are related to positive financial outcomes and other traits are related to negative financial outcomes for their businesses. Suppose that a board of directors is interested in evaluating the personality of their leadership . Among a sample of n = 16 managers , the sample mean of the openness to experiences dimension of personality was M = 4.50 . Assuming that mu = 4.24 and sigma = 1.05 (Cobb -Clark & Schurer , 2012) , use a two-dailed hypothesis test with alpha = .05 to test the hypothesis that this company's business leaders ' openness to experience is different from the population .arrow_forwardThe personality characteristics of business leaders (e.g., CEOS) are related to the operations of the businesses that they lead (Oreg & Berson, 2018).
