Multiple myeloma, or blood plasma cancer, is characterized by increased blood vessel formulation (angiogenesis) in the bone marrow that is a predictive factor in survival. One treatment approach used for multiple myeloma is stem cell transplantation with the patient's own stem cells. The data show below represents the bone marrow microvessel density for patients who has a complete response to the stem cell transplant (as measured by blood and urine tests). The measurements were taken immediately prior to the stem cell transplant and at the time the complete response was determined.

The human body is a complex, highly organized structure of cells that work together to accomplish the specific functions necessary for sustaining life. Each human has individual
characteristics that uniquely define who they are, but there are characteristics about the human body that have much less variability. One of these is the measurement around the calf
muscle's widest part. For this dataset, N = 507 individuals in their twenties and thirties who exercised several hours each week measured around the widest part of both calf muscles
and the average maximum girth in centimeters was recorded.

For data that can be reasonably assumed to follow a normal distribution with mean u and standard deviation a, the Empirical Rule can be used to get a sense of where the data values
are located in the distribution with regards to the mean.

A study was conducted that measured the total brain volume (TBV) (in ) of patients that had schizophrenia and patients that are considered normal. Table #9.3.5 contains the TBV of the normal patients and table #9.3.6 contains the TBV of schizophrenia patients ("SOCR data oct2009," 2013). Is there enough evidence to show that the patients with schizophrenia have less TBV on average than a patient that is considered normal? Test at the 10% level. (Show work)

- A medical student at a community college in city Q wants to study the factors affecting the systolic blood pressure of a person (Y) Generally, the systolic blood pressure depends on the BMI of a person (B) and the age of the person A. She wants to test whether or not the BMI has a significant effect on the systolic blood pressure, keeping the age of the person constant. For her study, she collects a random sample of 125 patients from the city and estimates the following regression function: Y= 15.50 + 0..90B+1.15A. (0.55) (0 40) The test statistic of the study the student wants to conduct (Ho: B, = 0 vs. H, B, #0), keeping other variables constant is. (Round your answer to two decimal places.) At the 5% significance level, the student will ▼ the null hypothesis. Keeping BMIl constant, she now wants to test whether the age of a person (A) has no significant effect or a positive effect on the person's systolic blood pressure. So, the test statistic associated with the one-sided test the…arrow_forwardRetinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a hereditary ocular diseasein which patches of pigment appear on the retina, potentially resulting in substantial vision loss and in somecases complete blindness.
