Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The steric strain along the C2-C3 bond in A and the C3-C4 bond in B shown in the given reaction is to be labeled.

Concept introduction:

The larger size of atoms brought closer together through the rotation of the C-C bond. The atoms crash to each other or due to the repulsion between the electrons to occupy the same space and repel one another. This electron repulsion between atoms or groups is known as steric strain. The larger group of atoms that are not directly attached to another group of carbon atom repel each other due to the steric strain. Substituents that are gauche to each other contribute steric strain to the molecule.
