Of the vast variety of perspectives in the field of psychology, there is one that emphasizes the roles of culture, ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status (SES) in behavior and mental processes. In the early 20^th century, some researchers conducted a study that demonstrated the adverse impact that school segregation can have on African American children, which in turn influenced a Supreme Court decision.
