Magnetic disk storage:
The magnetic disk storage uses magnetic strips to store data. It is covered with a magnetic coating on which digital information is embedded by a needle. This is a form of non-volatile memory which retains the data even in the absence of the power supply.
- Example: Floppy Disk, Hard drives, DVD.
Main memory:
Main memory is that physical memory where data and programs are stored when they are also being used by the processor. All the data and executed programs are copied from a storage device into main memory by the computer. They are a form of volatile memory.
- Example: RAM (Random Access Memory), ROM (Read Only Memory).
