Chapter 1, Problem 10MCQ
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Escherichia coli is a gram-negative bacterium belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family. Generally, they reside in the intestine as part of normal microbial flora. Only a few pathogenic strains of E. coli produce toxins which cause diarrhea in the host and are associated with gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections, neonatalmeningitis, hemorrhagic colitis, and inflammatory diseases such as Crohn's disease. It is an important bacterium in the food safety control, too.
