You are an engineer working at a soda manufacturer supplying drinks to the market in 330ml aluminium cylindrical cans. As a major drive to reduce material usage you have been tasked to model the problem as per the following instructions. a) Determine the dimensions giving the miminum surface area of the can of 330ml capacity, and determine this surface area. b) State the assumptions you have made for your model c) Determine the surface area used in making a standard can based on dimensions: 6.1cm diameter , 11.3cm height.

You are an engineer working at a soda manufacturer supplying drinks to the market in 330ml aluminium cylindrical cans. As a major drive to reduce material usage you have been tasked to model the problem as per the following instructions.
a) Determine the dimensions giving the miminum surface area of the can of 330ml capacity, and determine this surface area.
b) State the assumptions you have made for your model
c) Determine the surface area used in making a standard can based on dimensions: 6.1cm diameter , 11.3cm height.
d) Compare surface areas in ‘a’ and ‘c’ and determine any reduction in the surface area of your model in ‘a’ expressing this as a percentage reduction.
e) The material thickness of the alumimium can is 0.01cm and the density is 2.7g/cm3. Express the reduction in surface area in ‘d’ as a reduction in mass per can.
f) Your company produces 250 million cans per year. Determine the cost saving if alumimium is priced at £1.50 per kilogram
