1992. A rectangular region of the exhibit was fenced off to landscape for the fall season.
The area of the region was 125,000 square feet. A type of fencing costing $20 per foot
was used for the length along the back and front of the region because these were high-
traffic areas. A less expensive fence costing $10 per foot was used for the width for the
other sides.
Write an area function for the rectangle (remember the A is the constant 125,000)
b. Rewrite your area function from part a solving for the width, w, in terms of I
c. Write a cost function for the cost of the fence's perimeter remember P= 21+2w
d. Substitute your width function in terms of I from part (b) into the width variable of
your function of part (c) to get a cost function based on the length of the rectangle.
Use a graphing device to find the length of the region that minimized the cost of the
fence. Then refer to your equation in part a to determine the width as well. (hint use
a window of Xmin =0 Xmax= 1000, Ymin=0 , and Ymax=100000 and 2nd Trace 3)
