Question

Write a descriptive or explanatory paper: athletic ability and academic performance. You need to produce well-written text of at least 1,250 words and add these important extra components.

The first of these is the thesis statement: you need to produce a one-sentence statement of purpose that explains what your topic is and why it is important or interesting. This sentence needs to be placed at the end of the introductory (first) paragraph and should be a complete sentence – do not write multiple sentences or only part of a sentence. I require that the thesis statement be underlined. You will lose points if you don’t.

The second of these is sourced information. By this, I mean that you need to do research and find information about your topic, which you incorporate into your paper. You need to tell your reader about where you found this information so we can judge whether (A) it is trustworthy, and (B) whether you are trustworthy. Failing to describe how we know a piece of information is accurate or trustworthy is a red flag for readers. At least one piece of information needs to be quoted, but you may summarize and paraphrase other pieces of information.

The third of these builds on the second: you need to cite your sources (in addition to introducing them and explaining why they are trustworthy.) To do this, you need a parenthetical citation immediately after the information you take from another source, and you need an entry in a works cited list at the end of the paper.
