Abuse and neglect can be associated with child rearing practices of individual parents or even a culture at large, while poverty is associated with the economic condition s child finds himself/herself in.
Adjustment on the other hand is defined as behavior/attitudinal changes in a child on the basis of a desire or need to change. In this context, the need/desire to change in influenced by changes in a child's environment which is unexpected and/or atypical. Often well or super adjusted children are those who can manifest the necessary social, psychological and emotional responses to challenging situations.
