It is fairly easy to work out those for monatomic ions in the s and p blocks of the periodic table.
Group 1 elements (li, down) are +1. Group 2 elements are +2. Group 7, F downwards are -1. Group 16 such as O and S are -2. Group 15, N is -3. Group 13, Al is +3. For Transition elements in d Block, it is more complicated. For elements lower down in the p block, it is not necessarily the same as the elements at the top of those groups, although the halogens from F to I are all -1 as monatomic ions.
