Expert Solution
Step 1

Volcanoes

Volcanoes are openings or vents where lava and steam erupt to the surface of the Earth. Many mountains forms by this volcanic activity and a volcanic terrain is built by the slow accumulation of erupted lava.

The Earth's surface is made up of tectonic plates. It lies below the surface and the movement of these plates can cause volcanic activity. The volcanic activity mainly tends to occur along the subduction zones. In the subduction zones one plate slides underneath another. A majority of volcanic activity take places in the convergent boundaries also. In the convergent plate boundaries two plates collide each other. As most of the volcanic activities on the Earth occurs along the plate boundaries, some of them occurs along volcanically active spots called Hot spots also. In the world some places only experiences the volcano and other places do not experiences it. The lack of experience in volcanic activity is mainly due to the location of place. Places that are situated on boundaries of tectonic plates mostly experiences the volcanic activity. And if the places are situated on the middle of some plate it do not experiences the volcanic activities.
