why do people migrate
People are migrating for several different reasons. These factors can be categorized as social, cultural, economic, political or ecological:
-
- Economic migration: heading towards seeking a job or following a clear career route
- Social migration: shifting towards a higher quality of living, or closer to relatives or friends
- Political migration: fleeing to avoid political repression or conflict, the environmental factors of migration including natural disasters like floods, earthquake, cloud bursts
Many people want to travel, such as someone who travels to some other country to improve their job prospects. Some people are being forced to flee, such as anyone who leaves because of conflict or drought.
A refugee is somebody who has fled their country and therefore has no new residence to even go to. Often migrants do not bear a lot of belongings with them or do not possess a good understanding of when and whre they will eventually settle.
