Suicide can be described as intentionally and consciously ending one's own life. Suicidal ideation or suicidal behaviors are the thoughts and actions about taking one's own life, leading to suicide. Suicide can be a cause some underlying issues. In America, it is the 10th leading cause of death. Adolescents and the elderly are more prone to suicide than the other age groups.
People may attempt or commit suicide due to certain factors:
Poor mental health is highly correlated to suicidal behavior. Feelings of hopelessness, sadness is highly associated with suicidal ideation and behavior. Studies and medical reports indicate that the people who attempted suicide or have died of it had low levels of serotonin. Serotonin is the hormone that induces positive emotions in a person. Lower levels of such chemicals can lead to disruptive brain functioning and emotional state which can become cause poor mental health or mood disorders such as depression. It has been found that 95% of the people who commit suicide suffers from some form of mental illness.
