E.rhusiopathiae is commonly isolated from the sheep, chickens, pigs, and fish. This bacterium causes a disease called Erysipeloids. These bacteria can remain active for prolonged periods in sewage, food, soil water, and seawater. Humans that handle animals, carcasses, and meats. i.e veterinarians, fishermen, and butchers are at higher risk of infection as the animals are its primary reservoir.
