Recrystallization is a process of purification of impure compounds. The basic principle of recrystallization is that the dissolution of a solute increases in a solvent of the solution on increasing the temperature. An appropriate solvent should be selected for the dissolution of any given solute in the process of recrystallization. The impure solid is dissolved in the hot solvent and allowed to cool after it. As the solution cools down, the size of the pure crystal increases in the solution and the impurities are easily segregated in the solvent from the pure crystal.
