Why are IT managers not heavily involved in discussions surrounding the use of IT to enhance innovative capabilities?
Procter & Gamble, Linux, Xerox, etc., and many more are the names of the companies that stand out amongst their competitors. It seems there's no competition for these companies. Why are their sales high, their customers happy & satisfied, their operations run smoothly? One answer to all the questions can be management innovations.
These and many more such companies did not stick to the traditional manner of running organizations. However, they keep innovating new techniques, models to run their operations.
Now, why IT managers are not heavily involved in discussions regarding the enhancement of innovative techniques. Well, the role of IT managers in operations management is:
- to look at the overall network infrastructure and functionality of the system
- to manage the team taking care of the devices/passwords working in the organization
- to protect the important and secret data of the organization
- to manage the data backup to be reviewed later (if needed)
- make sure the research and development work is going on properly
More innovative decisions are taken in an organization; increased will be the scope for the IT department. Its department has got nothing to do with the management innovations as more creativity will give more expansion to an organization's IT department. The management of online meetings, collaborations, and seminars is all managed by the organization's IT managers.
