Why are classification system changing every now and then?
Carl Linnaeus in 18th century classified organisms into eight levels based on characteristics and features. He named it as modern system of classification of organisms. It includes
Domain – Based on similar cellular composition it divides living organism as eukaryotes or prokaryotes. The domain generally includes the archae, eubacteria and the eukaryotes.
Kingdom – Based on the similarity of the characteristics there are five types of kingdom which are plantae, animalia, fungi, protest and eubacteria.
Phylum – Based on similarity from different kingdoms phylum categories the organisms. Ex: Animalia kingdom categorized into vertebrates and invertebrates
Class - Phylum further categorized into class. Ex: fish, bird, mammal, amphibian etc. all are vertebrates
Order – The organism with same source of energy are categorized into one order.
Family – Organisms with special characteristics and ones with same ones amongst the order are put together as family.
Genus – This is the first name of organism
Species – The last name of the organism.
