Gene Interactions
When the expression of a single trait is influenced by two or more different non-allelic genes, it is termed as genetic interaction. According to Mendel's law of inheritance, each gene functions in its own way and does not depend on the function of another gene, i.e., a single gene controls each of seven characteristics considered, but the complex contribution of many different genes determine many traits of an organism.
Gene Expression
Gene expression is a process by which the instructions present in deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) are converted into useful molecules such as proteins, and functional messenger ribonucleic (mRNA) molecules in the case of non-protein-coding genes.
whose expression is affected by regulatory mutations?
Mutation-These are sudden changes in the gene expression which can alter the expression of particular gene segment.
Regulatory mutations:-It is a gene segment of a nucleic acid molecule(DNA or RNA) which has the capability to increase or decrease a particular gene expression.
In case of Eukaryotes, gene expression is regulated at the time of transcription and at the time of RNA processing which takes place in nucleus and at the time of translation in cytoplasm.
In case of prokaryotes ,gene expression is regulated by both repressors and activators they regulates it binding to the target site to the adjacent genes which has to be controlled.DNA is supercoiled and highly dense in case of prokaryotes.
