Psychodynamic theory, also known as psychoanalytical theory is defined as a set of psychological theories and therapeutic techniques with the core beliefs that each and every individual possesses unconscious thoughts, feelings, desires, and drives which significantly influence their behavior and the development of an individuals personality is influenced by the events of early childhood.
According to the psychodynamic theory, emotional distress and psychopathological disorders are all the products of unconscious desires and the suppression of those desires by the conscious. Individuals can gain insight into their current state of mind by bringing the content of the unconscious mind into conscious awareness. Through this process, a person can be relieved from psychological distress and pathological disorders.
