Which types of cells can regenerate? Name three types
that cannot regenerate
Regeneration is the healing process in which the blood vessels are repaired and new cells are generated in the damaged site. It occurs in the cells that undergoes mitosis. Thus, identical tissues produced by the nearby cells will replace the damaged tissues.
The cells that are capable for regeneration are epithelial cells. These cells are constantly replicating in nature as they will undergo mitosis. These cells are capable for resetting the basement membrane that acts as a scaffold on which the epithelium cells can grow and regenerate. These tissues have nerves. However, blood vessels are absent. Epithelial cells obtain nutrients and oxygen by diffusing the epithelial membranes with other blood vessels in the connective tissue under the basement membrane. As they receive adequate nutrition, they can replicate rapidly. Hence, epithelial cells have higher regenerative capacity.
