Which of the following is an input in the phosphorus nutrient cycle?
- erosion
- leaching
- runoff
- decomposition
The essential elements required by organisms for their bodybuilding and metabolism and known as biogenetic nutrients or biogeochemicals. These are provided by Earth and return to earth again after their death and decay.
Whole living matter is made up of nutrients either as structural components, biochemicals as enzymes .An ecosystem has a very limited supply of biogenetic nutrients in its abiotic environment.
From producers the nutrients in the form of organic matter are passed to the higher trophic level. They are released back to abiotic environment by decomposers acting on organic wastes and dead bodies by organisms. In this way, the same nutrients repeatedly moved through living and non living components of ecosystem and this process is known as biogeochemical cycle.
There are different biogeochemical cycles such as carbon cycle, Oxygen cycle ,nitrogen cycle and phosphorus cycle.
