Expert Solution
Introduction
  • Arteries carry oxygenated blood from heart to all other tissues and organs. Arterioles are small branches from arteries that carry the oxygenated blood to the capillary bed which is a place in capillaries where the exchange occurs.
  • Arterioles are made of three layers namely intima,  media and adventitia. Smooth muscles made up the media layer.
  • The smooth muscle has neurons through which it receives neuro signal to contract or expand the arteriole size. This helps in maintaining blood pressure.
  • Vasodilation means increasing in the diameter (widening) of arteriole which is due to the relaxation of smooth muscle cells. This increases the blood flow and decreases blood pressure. The factors responsible for it may be intrinsic (endogenous) or extrinsic (exogenous).
