Which is the highest energy-the reactants the products or the activated complex?
Expert Solution
Step 1Theories of reaction rates

1. Collision theory :

  • Without collisions beteween reactant molecules no chemical reactions takes place
  • All collisions does not leads to form products, only few collisions gives products. Thesee collisions are called friutful (or) sucessful collisions
  • In order to form products reactant molecules must posses some minimum amount of energy called " threshold energy "
  • Under ordinary conditions most of the molecules having energy lesss than threshold energy these molecules are called normal molecules
  • The additional amount of energy supplied to the normal molecules to attain threshold energy is called ' activation energy"
  •  Activation energy (Ea) = threshold energy - Average energy of normal molecules
  • The reactnant molecules which are having energy greater than (OR) equal to threshold energy colloids in a proper dirrection products are formed
  • Higher the value of threshold energy lower is the rate of reaction
