The pituitary gland is the pea-sized endocrine gland that is enclosed by the protective structure called as sella turcica. It is located at the base of the brain where a pituitary stalk called infundibulum attaches it to the hypothalamus. It consists of three lobes namely anterior lobe, posterior lobe and intermediate lobe.

- When you are have sufficient water volume in your blood, you stop secreting ADH. What is the effect of the absence ADH have upon on the collecting ducts? In the collecting duct the secretion of K+ is regulated and secreted by what causing a response to what? And causes this effect and in turn helps what? What is unique about blood flow out of the glomerular capillaries (Hint: what vessel drains them)? How does this help to explain why the pressure in the glomerular capillaries is higher than other capillaries?
- Is this statement true or false? Why? The collecting ducts are impermeable to water when ADH is present. Thank you!!Why is albumin not normally present in the urine? What is the difference between the glomerular capillaries and the peritubular capillaries? How do these relate to afferent and efferent arterioles? Why do the efferent arterioles have oxygenated blood? (The answer isn’t “they are called arterioles, therefore they have oxygenated blood.)
- The major action of ADH in the kidneys is to:a. increase water absorption by the proximal convoluted tubule.b. increase glomerular filtration rate.c. increase water reabsorption by the collecting duct.d. increase potassium’s excretion.Describe how the collecting duct harnesses the medullary osmotic gradient to concentrate urine. Name the hormone involved in this process and a stimulus for its release.Name the gland whose secretion is vasopressin.
- What is the major function of Cortical and medullary collecting ducts?Under circumstances of having low blood pressure , how does the sympathetic nervous system decrease glomerular filtration rate ? stimulates constriction of the efferent arteriole only stimulates relaxation of the mesangial cells stimulates secretion of erythropoietin stimulates constriction of both the afferent and efferent arteriolesWhat are the two means by which the kidney helps to regulate blood pressure?
