An antigen is a substance to which the immune system responds and produces antibody, a type of defence molecule. On the basis of these antigens, blood has been classified into different groups, called blood groups.Abo blood group of men is controlled by three multiple alleles IA, IB and Io or i. IA//IA (homozygous) or IA//Io (heterozygous) determine 'A' group, IB//IB or IB//Io determine 'B' blood group, IA//IB determine 'AB' group and Io//Io determine 'O' blood group.
