What species native to Oklahoma went from billions of animals to extinction in just 82 years ?
Expert Solution
Step 1

Extinction of Animals  Species on Earth-- The extinction of any species is an irreversible loss of part of the biological richness of the earth  or also can be defined as loss of species or other taxonomic unit eg. subspecies , genus , family  etc. ,when there are no surviving individuals elsewhere on the globe or earth .

A extinction of any animal or plant species can be natural occurrence caused by an unpredictable catastrophe, chronic environmental conditions or ecological interaction eg . competition , disease or predation .

Dramatic increase in extinction rate due to human ,( its nature , habitat and food habits ) since became dominant and largest animal causing environmental change .

Extinction of animal species in present global conditions -- According to scientists since the beginning of the life on Earth , an average of .01 - 2 out every million species have gone extinct every year .

Current  studies suggest that at least 829 species have become globally extinct in past 300 years .

Due to human mismanagement and activities , extinction ratio is creeping up to 10 - 10,000 times higher .

Causes of the species extinction -- Human and its activity are biggest and dangerous cause for extinction of species .Passenger Pigeon ,Dodo , Baiji White Dolphin , Great Auk ,Mammoth, Stellers Sea Cow

There are Overexploitation , Habitual Disturbance  , climate change , Habitat destruction ,also very important causes due to which extinction rate is growing dangerously .

Consequences of species extinction -- Species extinction at regional or global scales implies a general decline in biodiversity. Strong evidences give ,richness of species in an area enhances the ecosystem productivity and stability .There is marked bioaccumulation of toxins .
