This was a process which involved many parties such as the slave sellers in Africa, the Dutch and others who traded in slaves and the early American colonists who bought slaves to work in their fields. This source is discussing the colonization of the Americas which was a massive exercise in the depopulation of indigenous people. Local indigenous populations suffered colonization in many ways but the biggest influence on local demographics was the plague and other infectious diseases that the colonisers brought with them. Despite widespread military campaigns by European settlers for over 300 years, infectious diseases wiped up substantial local populations.
