What is the medical opinion about prevention vs treatment of disease?

Expert Solution
Step 1 Introduction

The use of an agent, procedure, or diet, such as medication, surgical procedure, or exercise, in an attempt to cure or alleviate an illness, condition, or injury is referred to as treatment.

Disease prevention involves deferring or eliminating particular diseases and conditions through one or more interventions that have been demonstrated to be effective.

Step 2

The disease develops if the primary infection does not subside, or the chain of infection would not be able to break in any way.
The strict preventive measures to be followed to break the chain of infection, if not able to do it so the disease can be developed. These two are independent of each other.
The objectives of disease prevention and treatment include:
1. Enhance the ability of local health professionals.
2. Promote disease prevention programs with the aim of restricting the spread of communicable diseases and reducing the incidence and complications of non-communicable diseases.
3. Improve the health infrastructure of local communities.
4. Educate and engage communities to help prevent major diseases from spreading.
5. Prevent physical disability due to illness or injury.
6. Support educational opportunities for career-conscious professionals involved in disease prevention and treatment.

The primary objective of medicine is to ensure that people do not have to go to a hospital or clinic. That's what I'm referring to as prevention. It should be the very first target, not the last. For health is a means of welfare, and health can only be achieved for all if all are mobilized for health and become aware of what ought to be the legitimate goal. That’s why this phrase is said so that “Prevention is better than cure”.
