What is the function of the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol and are there issues associated with it?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP):-

The IEEE Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) standard 802.11b specifies the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) security protocol. That standard is intended to provide a wireless local area network (WLAN) with security and privacy that is equivalent to that of a traditional LAN.

Function of the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP):-

By encrypting data delivered over the WLAN, the Wired Equivalent Privacy protocol offers security equivalent to that of a wired network. The fragile wireless link between clients and access points is protected by data encryption.

Other LAN security measures can assure privacy and data secrecy once WEP protects wireless data flow. Password protection, end-to-end encryption, virtual private networks, and authentication are just a few examples.
