What is the function of convolutions of the brain?
The central organ of the human nervous system is referred to as the brain. It makes up the central nervus system along wit the spinal cord. The adult human brain is about 1.2-1.4 kg in weight and accounts for about 2% of the total body weight. The brain is protected from external injuries or traumas by the skull. The brain is responsible for coordinating the various motor and sensory actions of the body. It is composed of billions of neurons that carry electrical impulses from the brain to the other parts of the body, and vice versa. The brain is divided into major three parts which are namely the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brain stem. The brain is enveloped by three membranes known as the meninges. These three membranes are namely the pia mater, the arachnoid mater, and the dura mater. These membranes allow the brain to be suspended in the cerebrospinal fluid.
