The nervous system is one of the highest order of the most complex parts of our body that is responsible for sensory and motor coordination and integration functions. There are 2 major divisions,i.e. the central nervous system or the CNS, and the peripheral nervous system,i.e. the PNS.
The enteric nervous system is also the intrinsic nervous system of our body, a complex network that works independently of the CNS. It forms a connection between the digestive system and the brain and its impact on the body due to this gut-brain connection. It is also known as the 'second brain' since it can control the brain and the central nervous system from inside the gut. It extends starting from the esophagus to the anus. It is connected to the brain via the vagus nerve and the prevertebral ganglia. It is involved in our body's significant functions like controlling motor functions, transportations, secretions of the mucosa, and essential immune functions.
