What is the characteristic function of nervous tissue?

Nervous tissue is present within the brain, spinal cord and nerves. It is the primary tissue of the nervous system that helps in regulating body functions.

The nervous tissue is primarily responsible for two functions which include integration and communication. The main two types of cells present in the nervous tissue are neurons and neuroglia cells. Neurons are principally responsible for the generation and conduction of nerve signals.

Neuroglia cells are referred to as the supporting cells responsible for providing structural support, removing debris, and providing electrical insulation to the nervous tissue.
