What is "sexual"? How is sexuality (particularly the concept of sexual orientation) socially constructed and/or defined by society and social institutions? Answering these first two questions will explain how symbolic interactionists view/understand sexuality. How do the theoretical perspectives of structural functionalism and conflict theory view sexuality? Be very clear and specific as you explain how all three of the main theoretical perspectives in sociology provide a unique piece toward the full sociological understanding of sexuality in society.  How do religion and children's media (particularly children's books and animated features) maintain and perpetuate norms of heterosexuality and heteronormativity? What types of discrimination do LGBT people face because of the perpetuation of heteronormativity? (Be specific.) How can we reduce heterosexism (and/or the perpetuation of heteronormativity) in ways that might reduce inequality based on sexual orientation? Define and explain prostitution. Your explanation should include how each of the three main theoretical perspectives view/understand prostitution. Define and explain pornography and also explain why pornography is difficult to define and explain. Why do so many people dislike pornography on principle, when in fact pornography is clearly very popular?
