What is routing?Describe distance vector routing.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Routing occurs in the Networking layer and is considered as the process of selecting a path across one or multiple networks. It is the process through which the routes for transferring data packets from source to destination are established. The devices through which routing decisions are made are called routers. Routers are responsible for finding the optimal path between two hosts. Routing is of two types:

  • Static Routing: It is the process in which the routes are added to the routing table manually.

Static Routing is more secure as only the network administrator can allow routing to particular networks.

  • Dynamic or Adaptive Routing: It is the process in which the routes are automatically adjusted according to the current state of the route in the routing table. To find the routes to the network destinations dynamic routing uses protocols. RIP and OSPF are two dynamic routing protocols.
