What is [OH – ] in a solution of 0.125 M CH 3 NH 2 and 0.130 M CH 3 NH 3 Cl?

I do not understand how to solve for Kb. Can you please explain this problem step by step?

Expert Solution
Step 1

NOTE : The Kb of the base CH3NH2 needs to be taken from the appendix as the value of pH is not given in the reaction.

Hence I'm taking from the appendix and then solving the question for the [OH-].

Given : Concentration of CH3NH2 = 0.125 M

And concentration of CH3NH3Cl = 0.130 M

Since the solution is having both weak base CH3NH2 and its conjugate acid salt CH3NH3Cl.

Hence the solution will be a buffer solution.
