What is meant by the term volcanism?
Volcanism means the process of eruption of magma that is molten rocks from the volcano on the surface of the earth. These escape through to the surface of the earth in the form of gases, lava, and ash that come out from the vent. The magma is stored in the mantle and the lower crust reaches the surface of the earth through high pressure and force.
The intensity of the release of magma depends on the viscosity of the rocks. The viscosity is characterized by the explosive eruption. While the non-viscous is characterized by effusive eruptions that release large amounts of lave on to the surface. The magma helps in the formation of igneous rocks, the movement of the rock in the mantle takes place by the thermal convective currents that originate in the mantel along with the gravitational force of the earth.
Volcanism is characterized by earthquakes, which are generally a product of volcanic activity. It also includes the hydrothermal vents that are produced with the interaction of water, such as geysers, fumaroles, hot springs, mud pots. The erupted material consists mostly of gases, that a mixture of streams, carbon dioxide, and sulfur compounds. Tephra that is sold particles of all sizes is ejected and thrown in the air.
Volcanoes are active, inactive and some are extinct, the active volcanoes have a lifespan that varies from months to years. Many of them erupt dozens of times and show no signs of stopping.
While some are inactive or dormant they sleep until they erupt suddenly with great force such as Yellowstone and mount Toba. Extinct are those that have no signs of activity and have deposits of snow on the surface as they no longer have magma supply.
