What is Kamakura Shogunate
The Kamakura Shogunate is said to be the feudal military government in Japan that ruled over the country from the year 1185 to the year 1333. The Kamakura was the residence of the supreme leader of the Shogunate dynasty. This dynasty was established when its leader Minamoto no Yoritomo won the Genie war. Yoritomo ruled over Japan as a military head.
Under the Shogunate rule, the position of the Emperor of Japan became symbolic with no real powers. The aristocracy had no power and all the power was possessed in the hands of the Shogunate dictator. This period saw the rise of feudalism in Japanese society.
The economy of the country got dependent on feudalism. The leader of the Shogunate provided lands to the feudal lords and gave them their fiefs. The feudal in return had to give them taxes and maintain a certain amount of soldiers. There was development in military technologies during this period.
