What is dichogamy?
Pollination is defined as the transfer of pollen grains from "male anthers" to the "female stigma". Self-pollination and cross-pollination are the two types of pollination.
Self-pollination is a process in which pollen from a flower arrives at the stigma of the "same flower". Cross-pollination is a process in which the pollen from the anther of one flower is transferred to the stigma of a "different flower". Cross-pollination causes the increase in "genetic diversity" as the gametes from different flowers mixing their genetic information to create unique offspring.
The outbreeding devices are a mechanism that promotes cross-pollination and to prevent self-pollination. The examples of outbreeding devices are dichogamy, self-sterility, heterostyly, herkogamy, and pollen prepotency.
