what is credential society ?

Expert Solution
INTRODUCTION

Societies are of different types. There are primitive, traditional, agrarian, modern, and also post-modern societies. Each society has its unique organization of the workforce. In the history of the evolution of the societies and evolution, there is also the change in the mode of production and the emergence of new occupations.

EXPLANATION

The emergence of new occupations has resulted in a change in the division of labor. In the contemporary context, there is a complex division of labor compared to that of traditional societies. Their organizational structure is strictly bureaucratic, where the workforce is organized one above the other. Each position where the individuals occupy has specified roles to perform in the organization. Also, they are required to adhere to the norms, rules of the organization and work for the organization's objective. But, the selection of the individual into this economic system to perform the roles is different concerning each society. In agrarian societies, the people are expected to perform the occupation that does not have any certification to certify the acquired occupational skills to prove their eligibility to be employed. A credential society is the one that views the credentials like certificates, degrees, etc. are essential for individuals to get employment opportunities in certain occupational sectors of the economic spectrum. This society treats these certifications and degrees like the one that proves or justifies the abilities and skills that are acquired by the individual who is suitable for performing the specific roles. For example, American society is a credential society, where the individual belonging to society has to produce certain certifications and degrees in the employment sector to prove their skill and ability to certify them as suitable for performing the specific roles.
