What is big data? What challenges does big data present to business? Provide an example of the use and benefit of Big Data.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Big data means large amount of the data in this large amount of the data both structured and unstructured data comes .

Let us understand it with a very simple example whenever an individual uses the smart phone lot of data is being generated like we use text , calls ,audios, videos , photos  emails  , searches and the music approximately  40 exabytes of the data gets generated  by every month by a single smart phone user  .

Just imagine yourself that when this 4 exabytes of data being multiplied with the five million smart phones users  that is a very large amount of the data for the traditional computers to handle  and this massive and large amount of the data is called as the Big data .

This image shows how much data is being generated  per minute .

How do we classify that the data is the big data there are  5'Vs by which we can classify it easily let us one by one .

  1. VOLUME : Many hospitals and the clinics  give us the massive amount of the data they are the source of the massive amount of the data . Approximately 2314 exabytes of data is being collected from the hospitals annually .
  2. VELOCITY : The data which we get from the patients  and there records  and there test records are generated at the high speed this is known as the velocity .
  3. VARIETY : Variety refers to the type of the data . Data can be structured , semi-structured and unstructured  like  excel files ,log records and the x ray images .
  4. VERACITY : Accuracy and the  trustworthiness is  termed as the  veracity of the data  .
  5. VALUE : Analysis of this data will help us to reduce the disease and  will help in better treatment and reduced costs this comes under the value .
