What is an example of Ecclesia?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Ecclesia

In ancient Greece, the ecclesia was the assembly of people in a city-state. Its origins can be traced back to the Homeric agora, or public gathering. In Draco's day, the Athenian Ecclesia, for which the most extensive record remains, was already in operation. The Ecclesia became coterminous with the body of male men 18 years of age or older during Solon's codification of the law and had final power over legislation, including the right to hear appeals in the hliaia, participate in the election of archons, and grant special privileges on individuals.

Ecclesia is a minor variation of the church style. Ecclesias have many of the same features as churches, but they are less effective in gaining universal obedience from all members of society. Ecclesias aren't always the only religious entity in a given societal environment. Some European countries' state churches would suit this description.
