What is a good response to? For my review of the El Paso Community Health Needs Assessment (CHA) and also the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), I found many similarities with the critical thinking portfolio assignment. I think both project and the community's CHIP identified significant health challenges such as limited access to healthy foods, high rates of obesity, and a large uninsured population. In both cases, the recommendations included partnership with local organizations to help to address these issues through improved access to healthcare, health education, and food security initiatives. For example, my project focused on the involvement of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and the University of Medical Center of El Paso, both of them are key stakeholders in the actual CHIP for our community. This alignment suggests that my analysis and recommendations are well-grounded in real needs and real strategies already recognized by local public health efforts.
