What is a compromise map projection?

The map projection is a way to represent the three-dimensional Earth's surface onto a flat and two-dimensional paper along with their rectified or distorted longitude and latitude graticules.
A compromise map projection is a sub-type of map projection methods that has preservation or no-alteration of the original metric properties of the 3-D surface. The metric properties can range from the area, direction, shape, distance to bearing a particular spatial unit. In the compromising type of map projection, the geographers seek a balance in the amount of metric distortion such that the distortions do not look apparent in the map. For instance, the compromise maps often have distortions more prominent on the spheroid's polar part than the equatorial region.
